Opening Ceremony

  • Faithful Navigator Frank Bio opened the meeting at 7:00pm in the Saint Mark Parish Hall, 1011 Eastwood Rd, Wilmington, NC. There were 17 Sir Knights with ID cards and rosaries in attendance.

  • The Opening Ode, America the Beautiful, was sung.

Call for the Approval of the Minutes of the Prior Meeting

  • A call was made for changes or amendments to the October 2023 meeting minutes. No changes or amendments were offered and a motion was made to accept the minutes as recorded on the Assembly website; the motion was seconded and passed by unanimous vote.

  • No report.

Report of the Faithful Comptroller - SK Greg Decker

  • The Faithful Comptroller reported that the Assembly has 157 members. Also:
    • Given the continued problem with Supreme not processing our checks timely, we will likely end up with a credit.
    • Reminder that annual dues for Regular members are now $30.
    • Turned $5600 over the Purser from the Veteran Support Raffle and Scholarship donations.
    • Reimbursed the four winners for Regalia purchases.

Report of Committees

Membership Report/ Reading of Applications/ Balloting

  • No new applicants; however, SK Chester Pun Chuen attended the meeting and asked to transfer to the Assembly. The next 4th Degree Exemplification is scheduled for January 20 at St. Paul's in New Bern, NC.

Patriotic Reports

Veterans Support - SK Tim Ludgate

  • Please continue to support the Wreaths Across America ending on 28 November and we have sold 59 wreaths. At noon on December 16, the wreaths will be laid at the National Cemetery on Market Street if you are interested in helping.
  • Planning another meal at the Veterans Home in late January/early February.
  • The Cape Fear Veterans Raffle sold 433 tickets totaling $1435. The drawing was conducted with the following winners:
    • 1st Place: Joe McCaul ($500) - a member of Council 12017
    • 2nd Place: SK Joe Costy ($250)
    • 3rd Place: SK Greg Decker ($100)

Scholarship for Future Saints - SK Caleb Strittmatter

  • SK Caleb Strittmatter will be meeting with Father John McGee of ICC to discuss the way ahead for the SFS.

Honor Guard - SK Bob Gorman

  • The next event requiring support is the Burgaw Christmas Parade at 5:00pm on Saturday, December 9. We will meet at the Burgaw Middle School and an email is forthcoming with more details.

Fraternal Social Report - SK Frank Weisgerber

  • SK Weisgerber The tour of Thalian Hall was enjoyed by the 9 attendees. The Assembly Christmas Party is on December 13 at the South Beach Grill.

  • No report.

Unfinished/Old Business

  • The Faithful Navigator asked for any suggestions or additions to the Planning Document as well as nominations for guest speakers at future Assembly meetings.

  • Reminder of the 4th Degree Exemplification on January 20, 2024 with Mass at 9am and the ceremony beginning at 11:30am at St. Paul Catholic Church, 33005 Country Club Rd, New Bern, NC.

    New Business

  • SK Tom Sullivan provided an overview of his recent trip to Egypt and Jordan.

  • The January meeting will be held in Wilmington Council 1074's chambers which are located in the Tileson Building of the Basilica Shrine of St. Mary.

Report of Third Degree Councils

  • 1074 Wilmington - The recent coat drive was a great success as was a recent Exemplification that was conducted in the Church. Council Christmas Party is on 9 December.

  • 11817 St. Stanislaus - Thanks to all for your help in making the annual Polish Festival a success. Their Coats for Kids program and Exemplification in the Church were also successful. They also had a Knights Mass where they received their Double Star award.

  • 12017 St. Mark - Conducted a Spanish exemplification on November 12 and in English on November 14. The Cor program continues most Thursday evenings in the St. Juan Diego Room. Will be helping the Scouts unload Christmas Trees on Black Friday. Invited everyone to join them on Beers with Brothers, a quarterly fraternal get-together.

  • 12885 St. Therese - Selling Christmas baskets after Mass throughout December. Their Christmas Party on December.

Brothers in Need

  • Prayers requested for SK Tom Rice, the recently deceased wife of SK Lou Mattes, and SK Marco Vialpando and his wife Valerie suffering from Covid.

Good of the Order

  • The Worthy Faithful Captain provided the wisdom of Bishop Fulton Sheen: “A Catholic may sin and sin as badly as anyone else, but no genuine Catholic ever denies he is a sinner. A Catholic wants his sins forgiven - not excused or sublimated.”

  • Next gathering will be at 6pm on Wednesday, December 13 at the South Beach Grill in Wrightsville Beach for the Christmas Party and then January 16 at St. Mary’s.
