Pre-Meeting 7 pm

  • The Lord’s Prayer was said for the health of Holy Pope Francis.
  • The meeting was preceded by a presentation: Special Guest Speakers: Sabina Newman and John McDevitt of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
  • The SVdP Our Lady of the Rosary Cape Fear Conference was founded on July 14, 2024, but it has been actively researching and creating its foundation since March 2024. It is here to provide HOPE and service to people in need, lovingly called neighbors in the Cape Fear Region.

Opening Ceremony

  • Faithful Navigator Frank Bio opened the meeting at 7:23 pm in the Basilica of Saint Mary’s Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1074 chambers, 412 Ann Street, Wilmington, NC. There were 23 Sir Knights with ID cards and rosaries in attendance.

Call for the Approval of the Minutes of the Prior Meeting

  • A call was made for changes or amendments to the November 2024 meeting minutes. There were no changes or amendments suggested. The previous minutes are accepted.

Report of the Faithful Friar

  • No report.

Report of the Faithful Comptroller - SK Greg Decker

  • The Faithful Comptroller reported that our membership is at 157; three deaths (SKs Mattes, Norman Risch, and James Stock), three new Sir Knights (SKs John Danchisko, Mike Fitzpatrick, and Bob Spiegel). Self Introductions by SK Fitzpatrick and SK Bob Spiegel.
  • The financials reported can be requested by contacting the Faithful Comptroller.
  • 20 members still need to pay their dues.
  • Some indicated they want to resign – if so, please send a signed note to SK Decker with the reason for your resignation.
  • Expenditures: $1,300 for Veterans Raffle and Wreaths Across America.
  • Income: From Dues and Scholarship Donations.

Report of the Faithful Purser - SK Tom Sullivan

  • The Faithful Purser reported on current balances, and that the CD is to mature April 20, 2025. Decision needed on the status of renewal.
  • The financials reported can be requested by contacting the Faithful Purser.

Report of Committees

Membership Report/ Reading of Applications/ Balloting

  • The next 4th Degree Exemplification is March 29.
    • No candidates for this exemplification.

Veterans Report

  • Wreaths Across America – 70 Wreaths purchased thus far. Still can go to the site to donate Wreaths until December.
  • Cape Fear Honor Flights 2025 is April 26. Meet returning veterans at the airport 9-10 pm. meet at the airport at 9-10 pm. SK Ken O’Leary has been accepted for the Honor Flight.

2025 Collegiate Scholarship Program – SK John Reynolds

  • Scholarship program is now open and will appear in the Church Bulletins.
  • Website is updated for applications and donations.
  • Monthly raffles will be held for a chance to win $50 for each $20 donation. There will be six drawings from April thru June.
  • Webinar to be held on the last Wednesday of March for students and parents to help with college.

Color Guard Report

Completed

  • Wilmington Veterans Day Parade, November 9. Joined by the Hampstead Assembly.
  • Burgaw Christmas Parade, December 14. Joined by the Hampstead Assembly.
  • St. Mark’s Eucharistic Revival on January 3.
  • Joe Rossi’s Funeral at Hampstead.
  • Lou Mattes’ Funeral at BSSM.
  • Confirmation at Camp Lejeune with the Auxiliary Bishop from the Archdiocese for the Military Services.

Upcoming

  • March 15 – St. Patrick’s Day Parade
    • Will be joined by the Hampstead Assembly
    • Please tell members of your council that they are also welcome
    • The parade starts at 11:00 am
    • The Stage area is Hanover and Front
  • New Church Dedication at All Saints in Hampstead on April 2
    • Hampstead Assembly is asking us to help for this important date
    • Be there by 1:00 pm {Note. This time is suspect. A correction will be communicated by 3/20 to all honor guard members.}
    • They would like to have 18 Sir Knights in the Honor Guard.

Uniform Reimbursement

  • Two available to offset 50% of the cost

Fraternal Social Report - SK Frank Weisgerber Report given by Faithful Navigator

  • Christmas Party venue December 17 at South Beach Grill.
  • Discussed future events from the membership
  • SK Charlie Backes recommended a visit to the Cape Fear Museum on Market Street
  • Recommendation for a tour of the Ft. Fisher Museum

Trustees Report

  • Nominations for future positions for the Assembly.
    • Every position is open.
    • Need a replacement for Comptroller – Greg Decker
    • Need to assign a new Corps Commander by the Faithful Navigator

Unfinished/Old Business

  • Shirts and Badges have arrived and were distributed during the meeting.
    • Thanks to SK Jack Murphy for the shirts. Please keep in your prayers – he had recent surgery and is recovering well.
  • Prolife Rally at Long Leaf Park on February 8

New Business

  • A motion was made and passed for $100 to place a half page ad in the State Knights of Columbus 2025 Convention booklet. Artwork completed by SK Decker.

    • February 25 and 28 – Knights of Columbus Council Free Throw Competition at BSSM, starts at 10:00 am
    • 1st and 3rd Wednesday each month at 6:30 pm – COR meets at Immaculate Conception Church
    • March 25 and 23 – Membership Drive – BSSM, all are welcome to participate, come in council shirts
    • February 23 – 3rd Degree Exemplification at ICC after 10:30 am Mass with Fraternal Benefits presentation
    • March 26 – Founder’s Day Dinner, Junction 421
    • Superbowl 50/50 Football Pool - $1,000 raised for LAMB, $250 went to the Cape Fear Scholarship Fund
